Maui is the valley isle of Hawai'i Nei'.  Maui Nui consists of 7 volcano heads with big valleys in between. Haleakalā is the tallest at 10,023 ft., Mauna Kahālāwai (West Maui),  Molokai east, west and Penguin Bank (underwater west of Molokai) Lāna'i and Kaho'olawe.  The big valley underwater between the volcano heads is the Pacific Whale Sanctuary where each winter Humpback whales return to birth, mate, and strength train the babies for their journey back to north pacific for summer meals and weight gain. Lahaina, was originally the Capital of Hawaiian Nation, located on the bay of West Maui.  Mauna  Kahālāwai (West Maui) gets around 30 Feet of rain a year and provides most of the water source for Maui and its visitors.  Maui has a country vibe, promoting sustainability through local farming and community supporting community.  Plan on slowing down and just cruising when coming to Maui.
